RACHNA Launches the “Green Dhaba Project”

RACHNA has launched an innovative project called ‘Green Dhaba Project’ in partnership with Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) to transform 60 existing Dhabas (Dhaba is a Hindi word for road side eatery) in the Headwaters of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers i.e. Garhwal region of Uttarakhand state in India.
The Dhabas will be transformed into ‘Green Dhabas’ by providing a bundle of services i.e. Training, Business Planning, Credit linkages and Marketing/Advertising support. A transformed Dhaba will have/provide the following: i) an attractive, safe and healthy eating place to the tourists, ii) better living and working conditions to the labor force, iii) local food in the food menu to promote sale of the local agriculture produces and popularize local food, iv) purified/safe drinking water to the tourists with an option of refilling their water bottles at the Dhabas/ restaurants to reduce the use of plastic water bottles , v) use of renewable energy and roof top rainwater harvesting, vi) proper garbage disposal and management system, vii) an outlet to sell the local agriculture; horticulture and handicraft items of the region. The Green Dhabas will not employ children as labors.
The Green Dhaba Project will create a new brand of clean and authentic Dhabas by adopting a color scheme, logo and quality standards.
